In a recent speech, Biden stated, “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.” Not only will the world test Obama, according to Biden, “The world is looking. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.” Biden went on to say that the decisions made by Senator Obama in the wake of such an event will be unpopular with the American people and that they will need to keep their resolve and support President Obama during those difficult times. Biden said that Obama’s ratings would drop and that his supporters needed to “gird your loins” for that time and keep up support.
Today CNN played a small sound bite of Obama responding to, or trying to clarify, Biden’s remarks. I was at a loss. Obama did not answer the questions raised by Biden. Instead Obama said , “Whoever is the next president is going to have to deal with a whole host of challenges internationally and … a period of transition in a new administration is always one in which we have to be vigilant,” “We have to be careful. We have to be mindful that as we pass the baton in this democracy that others don’t take advantage of it — that is true, whether it’s myself or Senator McCain, it’s been true throughout history.”(1)
What about the question of there being an orchestrated plot to test you? “I think that Joe sometimes engages in rhetorical flourishes,” Obama said. Had the same type of gaffe been made by Governor Palin, the media would have been all over it. With Biden making the gaffes its passed off as just Biden being Biden.
Isnt Biden the one with all the political experience?
