I have caved. I said I would only post one political piece this year(1) . Call me a liar. I don’t care.
Hope, as its spoken by the Obama camp, is bullshit. It’s crap.
Obama is talking “hope” like it carries real weight. It doesn’t. Its a sham, a buzzword to get people excited over nothing. Why else would it be used 125000(2) times on his website?
The good people at Merriam-Webster defines hope as -
intransitive verb
1: to cherish a desire with anticipation <hopes for a promotion>
2archaic :trust
transitive verb
1: to desire with expectation of obtainment
2: to expect with confidence : trust
(Noun) 1archaic : trust, reliance 2 a: desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment <came in hopes of seeing you>; also : expectation of fulfillment or success <no hope of a cure> b: someone or something on which hopes are centered <our only hope for victory>c: something hoped for.
I read a lot about desire and expect in those definitions. Nothing in that leads to fine anything concrete in the HOPE that Obama talks about.
What are we hoping for, change? How novel is that? Hoping that things will change and be different. Lets see, I WISH things were different. isn’t that the same? Encarta says(3) -
Synonyms: confidence, expectation, optimism, anticipation, courage, hopefulness, faith.
Lets take a look… Nope… Well maybe faith(4) . Is that what the HOPE is?
I know I’m not the only one asking this. Look over at Tribal Seduction. They have a great post on it.
… I … have faith that most people are smart enough to make the shift from hope to faith… and take action to change their lives.
I chose that quote for a reason, to change THEIR lives, not have the government do it for you.
If your liberal, then thats not what you want to hear. You like the government in your life, telling you how to get health care(5) , how to eat, and how to raise your kids. You like paying more in taxes and supporting others with it. You don’t like seeing any returns. Entitlements are wonderful, right?
More people need to get off their asses and take ACTION and stop waiting, HOPING that something will CHANGE. Be that change.
I “hope” it passes. I have “faith” it will, but not until we hear more about “hope” from Obama(6) .
